Many people get this little part of makeup wrong. I cannot stress enough how much it bothers me to hear people confuse the two. I guess that's why I'm dedicating an entire post to it. What bothers me the most is that a "makeup artist" tried to argue with me saying that I've got it all wrong. Of course I hit her with the facts because if you consider yourself a makeup artist the least you can do is education yourself on the terms, the techniques and the correct matter of things before you head out and tell your clients one thing- and it happens to be the completely wrong advice. So this post is to save all my readers from the misled information you might have heard before. A defined eye and a smokey eye are two very different looks. Many people believe that Kim Kardashian' signature eye makeup is a smokey eye- WRONG. That is a defined eye.
A defined eye usually starts light at the tear duct (inner part of your eye) then progresses into a darker color at the outer V of your eye (outer corner). Usually a defined eye consists of neutral colors- more for an eveyday look. It can also only consist of pale color on lid with liner. The purpose of a defined eye is to DEFINE the eye- make it appear bigger, smaller, awake, wide, etc- using eyeshadow and/or eyeliner.
A smokey eye is when your entire lid is colored with a certain tone of eyeshadow and then blended UPWARD to create a "smokey" effect. The signature smokey eye is black.
I really want to stress the difference because I do not want you guys to be misinformed. LOTS of people get this confused. But now you guys know :) I got these Photos from Google and to my surprise there were some defined eye makeup photos when I searched 'smokey eye', but I PROMISE that this information I am supplying you guys with is correct and is a fact. I will never post something that I myself am unsure of. I hope this helped. Love yall.
xoxo
